Msia press on to host WFFC

PUTRAJAYA, (Bernama) - Malaysia will continue its bid to host the World Formula Future championships after failing to land the host job in two previous attempts, due to the threat of Influenza A (H1N1).

H20 Sports Sdn Bhd Managing Director Datuk Yahya A.Jalil said he had already met and expressed Malaysia's intention to host the event at Putrajaya during a meeting with the president of the Union International Motonautique.

"We hope to host the championships in Putrajaya next year because we have all the facilities needed to host the championships.

"In fact, we were supposed to have hosted the championships this year but we had to forego the offer since we were not ready.

"This year the World Formula Future championships would be held at the Merseyside in England from August 13-15," said Yahya.

Two years ago, Malaysia were supposed to have hosted the World Formula Future championships but due to the Influenza A (H1N1) threat, it was shifted to Europe.

Yahya added that apart from Malaysia, England, Germany, Portugal, Italy and United States have also submitted their bids to host the championship while the result would be announced by the world body soon.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Shabery said he would meet Putrajaya Corporation president Tan Sri Samsudin Osman and seek his cooperation to upgrade the facilities available at the Putrajaya Lake Club in Precinct 8, to popularize the sport.

As for the National Formula Future championships, 13 states would be participating in the various age group categories organised.

Yahya added that the championship would also be used as a platform to select 10 pilots to represent the country at the World Formula Future championships in the five class competitions, namely Class 1 (7 to 9 years), Class 2 (10-11 years), Class 3 (12-13 years), Class 4 (14-15 years) and Class 5 (16-18 years).
